Note: The synonymy was proposed by J. Feldmann & G. Feldmann (1939; 1943: 109–117). Post (1968a: 96) suggested that the record of Polysiphonia rufolanosa from Calcutta published by G. Martens (1870c: 260) might be referable to Lophosiphonia.
