Gracilaria opuntia Durairatnam, 1962: 11–12, fig. 3.—Umamaheswara Rao, 1974b: 688, 690, fig. 4k, pl. III:D.— Mahendran et al., 1980: table 1.— Mageswaran & Sivasubramaniam, 1984a: 175.
INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Andaman Islands, Nicobar Islands, Sri Lanka.
Note: This species is based on Corallopsis opuntia sensu Svedelius (1906b: 192, 199, 200, 215, figs. 4, 5) as distinguished from Corallopsis opuntia J. Agardh. The name Gracilaria opuntia Durairatnam remains to be validated by the provision of a Latin diagnosis and the indication of a type specimen, as required by Arts. 36.2 and 37.1. It should be noted that the binomial Gracilaria opuntia has already been applied, although invalidly, to Corallopsis opuntia J. Agardh. (See Note to G. salicornia [p. 175].)
