Gracilaria multipartita.—G. Murray, 1887: 27.— Jadin, 1935: 165.
INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Andaman Islands, India, Iran, Kenya, Kuwait, Laccadive Islands, Mauritius, Nicobar Islands, Pakistan, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Yemen.
Note: The conspecificity of Gracilaria foliifera, G. lacinulata (Vahl) Howe, and G. multipartita (Clemente y Rubio) Harvey was proposed by Børgesen (1932c: 7–9). Partly on the basis of hybridization studies, however, Guiry & Freamhainn (1986: 635–636) suggested that G. multipartita is a distinct species confined to eastern North Atlantic shores. The misapplication of Gracilaria corticata and G. corticata var. ramalinoides was noted by Umamaheswara Rao (1974b: 682), that of G. multipartita by Guiry & Freamhainn (1986: 635–636).
