Note: Fucus caulescens S. Gmelin (1768: 173–175) was referred to Suhria vittata by J. Agardh (1851 [1851–1863]: 480). Gmelin gave the provenance as "mare indicum, mediterraneum'', the "indicum'' being based on Seba (1758: pl. CIII: fig. 5), which Gmelin cited. Seba's illustration, however, was probably based on a plant from the Cape of Good Hope on the Atlantic Ocean.
