Note: Drouet (1978: 25) designated a specimen in the Dillenius Herbarium (in OXF) as neotype of this species. Among numerous taxonomic synonyms cited by Drouet (1978) are Anabaina circinalis Rabenhorst, A. spiroides Klebahn, and Nostoc maculiforme Bornet & Flahault, which are listed separately in this catalogue.
