Note: Drouet (1968: 100, 105), after examining the holotype of this species (in L), assigned it to Schizothrix friesii (C. Agardh) Gomont (1890: 352) (Oscillatoria friesii C. Agardh, 1817: 107; type locality: Småland, Sweden). The latter species has been reported only from fresh water.
