INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: India.

Note: Gomont (1892b: 110), on the basis of a specimen in Lenormand's herbarium determined by Kützing, assigned this species to Symploca muscorum (C. Agardh) Gomont. Drouet (1968: 192, 196), after examining the holotype (in L), assigned it to Oscillatoria retzii C. Agardh (1812 [1810–1812]: 36; type locality: Sweden). Neither S. muscorum nor O. retzii has been reported from saline water.
