Note: After examining the type of this species (in BM), Gomont (1892b: 137) referred it to Lyngbya confervoides C. Agardh, while Drouet (1968: 278, 308) assigned it to Microcoleus lyngbyaceus (Kützing) P. Crouan & H. Crouan.
