Previous entry: Johannesbaptistia pellucida

Merismopedia Meyen

Note: Merismopedia Meyen (1839: 440) is generally considered congeneric with Agmenellum Brébisson (1839: 35). The manuscripts are dated December 1838 and May 1839, respectively, but priority between the two publications has not been established. We follow Komárek (1958: 40), Bourrelly (1970: 312), and Komárek & Anagnostidis (1986: 214) in adopting Merismopedia (for which the orthographic variants Merismopoedia and Merismopedium have been used) rather than Agmenellum.

Merismopedia elegans A. Braun ex Kützing

Merismopedia elegans A. Braun ex Kützing, 1849: 472 (`Merismopoedia') (type locality: "in fossis turfosis Germaniae australioris'' [Freiburg im Breisgau, Baden-Württemberg fide Drouet & Daily, 1956: 89]).—G. Subramanian et al., 1989: 316.— S. Silva, 1992a: 110, fig. 12.— S. Silva, 1992b: 102, fig. 7.— Thajuddin & G. Subramanian, 1992a: table III.

INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: India, Mozambique.

Note: Drouet & Daily (1956: 89, 91), not finding any type material of this species in Kützing's herbarium at L, designated a neotype (from Leipzig, Germany) and assigned it to Agmenellum thermale (Kützing) Drouet & Daily.
