Dermocarpa olivacea (Reinsch) Tilden var. gigantea C.B. Rao, 1936: 167, figs. 1C,D (type locality: Benares [Varanasi], India, in fresh water).
Cyanocystis olivacea (Reinsch) Komárek & Anagnostidis var. gigantea (C.B. Rao) S. Silva, 1992b: 104, figs. 14, 15, nom. inval.
Sphaenosiphon olivaceus Reinsch var. giganteus (C.B. Rao) P. Silva.
INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Mozambique.
Note: Drouet & Daily (1956: 135), on the basis of the original description, assigned this variety to Stichosiphon sansibaricus (Hieronymus) Drouet & Daily (1952: 223) (Chamaesiphon sansibaricus ("sansibaricum'') Hieronymus, 1895a: 8; type locality: Zanzibar, Tanzania). The latter species has been reported only from fresh water. The combination Cyanocystis olivacea var. gigantea is invalid since the author did not cite the basionym and thus failed to satisfy Art. 33.2.
