    2. Inflorescence ± spike-like, cylindric, dense; 1° branches, generally < 3 cm, appressed, obscure
 
      3. Upper glume length > 0.5 × lemma, lanceolate, tip entire; glume and lemma midveins ± scabrous at 20×
