Initial Editorial Comments
spelling of epithet is as cited in protologue, Munz, and The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], but possibly to be corrected to "caerulea", consistent with Kartesz & Meacham and International Plant Names Index-Index Kewensis, as it may be an automatically correctable error in that "caeruleus" means blue, in reference to the "pale blue" corollas as described by Greene.

Editorial Comments 1
Correspondence 1 confirms that Phacelia coerulea was the original spelling used by Greene (Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical Club 8:122. 1881), and indicates that "coerulea" is given as an alternate spelling for "caerulea" in Stearn and Cassel's New Latin Dictionary, and that no correction [or change] is needed or permitted [as indicated by Art. 60.1, ICPN, St. Louis]. [Therefore, spelling of epithet correct as given in this Index, 22 Jan 2007.]
