Correspondence 1 includes reference to a dissertation by Sarah Taylor, author of Nama in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2], in which it is argued that Nama is to be treated as feminine: Linnaeus used feminine terminations for species epithets in Species Plantarum in 1753, and for some years thereafter the genus name was treated as feminine; Gray noted in 1875 that Nama, in both Latin and Greek, is neuter, and the genus name was treated as such until 1994 [as well as in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] (1993) and The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] (2012), when Nicolson explicitly assigned feminine gender to Nama, evidently based on the original treatment of the issue by Linnaeus; Art. 62.1 of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (Vienna Code, 2006) states that a genus name retains the gender assigned to it by "botanical tradition" (i.e., the use of names before Linnaeus), or by its original author (Linnaeus in this case) if botanical tradition is lacking, which it is in this case. [Therefore, epithets corrected to Nama densa Lemmon var. densa, from Nama densum Lemmon var. densum previously in this Index, 29 Jul 2013.]
