M. Johnst.; Urb. is the Authors of Plant Names abbreviation for Ignatz Urban (1848-1931), who was alive when the basionym, Mentzelia stenophylla Urb. & Gilg, was published (Nova Acta Acad. Caes. Leop.-Carol. German. Nat. Cur. 76: 80. 1900), and not for Lowell Urbatsch (1942- ), who was not yet born at the time. [The standard for author abbreviations in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] was the Draft Index of Author Abbreviations, in which Urb. was the abbreviation for Lowell Urbatsch; thus, the author citation in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], Mentzelia hirsutissima var. stenophylla (Urb. & Gilg) I.
