Initial Editorial Analysis Nov 1 2001
Source of Report for California The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Initial Editorial Comments "Montia spathulata Howell" said to be illegitimate in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] (p. 899).
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by John M. Miller see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that the statement in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] that Montia spathulata is illegitimate was imprecise in that Montia spathulata (Douglas ex Hooker) Howell is the invalid combination of the 1834 basionym Claytonia spathulata Douglas ex Hooker, which is the same name as (a later homonym of) Claytonia spatulata Eaton, published in 1818, now regarded by Miller and Chambers (2006) as a synonym of Claytonia caroliniana Michaux.
