Correspondence 1 indicates: that Amsinckia vernicosa var. grandiflora (basionym of Amsinckia grandiflora) was published by A. Gray (Geological Survey of California, Botany 1: 525 (1876); that Gray included the previously-unpublished name Amsinckia grandiflora Kleeb. as a synonym, and that such inclusion does not serve as valid publication of that name (Amsinckia grandiflora); that Amsinckia grandiflora was later published by Greene (= Authors of Plant Names) in Manual of the Botany of the Region of San Francisco Bay 263 (1894), and that Greene ascribed the name to Kleeb. (= Authors of Plant Names), which, at that time, also served as an indirect reference to the basionym Amsinckia vernicosa var. grandiflora A. Gray.
