Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 30 Oct 2007 e-mail from Richard Moe see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates: that Moe could not find the epithet "oblongatus" in either Scirpus or Schoenoplectus [although he did not indicate where he had searched, he has indicated at other times that he consults International Plant Names Index, TROPICOS, and sometimes other resources in researching such matters]; that in Flora North America, Schoenoplectus acutus X Schoenoplectus heterochaetus = Schoenoplectus àoblongus (T. Koyama) Sojâk is indicated for Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani; and that, therefore, "oblongatus" must be a typo. [Therefore, spelling of epithet corrected to Schoenoplectus X oblongus (T. Koyama) Soják, from Schoenoplectus X oblongatus (T. Koyama) Soják previously in this Index, 31 Oct 2007, even though the protologue has yet to be seen.]
Correspondence 2 31 Oct 2007 handwritten note from Richard Moe see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 confirms that the epithet indeed is spelled "oblongus" in the protologue of the basionym, Scirpus X oblongus T.Koyama (Canad. J. Bot. 40: 928. 1962).
