a Hrusa et al., ms later published in Madrono 49(2)61-98. 2002: DISTRIBUTION: NCoRI.; STATUS: established.; NOTES: First escaping from ornamental plantings at residence on CAS Pepperwood Preserve in 1976. Population large and apparently increasing, mixed with Verbascum thapsus. Possible hybrid forms are scattered at this locality (Jul 25, 2000, Hrusa 15693, CDA); "...Common on benches above rocky, dry bed of Leslie Creek...00..."

Mark West Ck. confluence to first main tributary from NE. Mixed with Verbascum thapsus. July 25, 2000, G.F. Hrusa 15690, 15691, 15692 (CDA, and to be distributed): NOTES: Readily distinguished from other naturalized Verbascum by its dense white-arachnoid pubescence, especially in the inflorescence. Flowers are brighter yellow and larger than in V. thapsus. First escaping from ornamental plantings at residence on CAS Pepperwood Preserve in 1976. Population, mixed with Verbascum thapsus, is large and apparently increasing. Possible hybrid forms are also scattered at this locality (July 25, 2000, Hrusa 15693, CDA).

Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Verbascum olympicum Boiss. is a name that in California has been misapplied occasionally to pls belonging instead to Verbascum bombyciferum Boiss., which is said in a note to be in cultivation, and doubtfully naturalized in CA.
