Holmgren is in a clade separate from Juniperus occidentalis Hook. var. occidentalis and therefore is to be treated as a distinct species, Juniperus grandis (Juniperus australis is already in use, for a different species), to be published by Robert Adams in Phytologia in March-April 2007.
