Correspondence 2 indicates that Barbara Ertter, whose collection no. 17810 (UC1789196, collected 29 October 2001) is the probable source of the note appearing at the end of the genus description in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] (p. 160), considers the taxon to be "at least marginally naturalized" in Tilden Park. [Indeed, statements on the collection label of Ertter 17810, including "understory of mixed forest" and "Occasional lax shrub", strongly suggest that Viburnum rigidum Vent. had become naturalized in Tilden Park, but no plants were seen in a 2-hour search of the area ("along the Sibley Trail between Lake Anza and the spot where the trail climbs up into the Eucalyptus near the one-way road below the Brazilian Room" according to an e-mail of 23 July 2014 from David B. Wake, who first reported the occurrence of the plant in Tilden to Ertter) by the editor of this Index on 23 July 2014 (in fact, the search revealed no plants with opposite simple leaves at all). A search of the area while the plants in question would be in flower is planned for late October 2014.]

A search by the Editor of this Index of the same area visited on 23 July 2014 ("along the Sibley Trail between Lake Anza and the spot where the trail climbs up into the Eucalyptus near the one-way road below the Brazilian Room"), this time with John Strother, again revealed no plants, although some were found in an area much closer to where Ertter 17810 is actually mapped in Berkeley Mapper, east-northeast of the first area searched, on both sides of an evidently unnamed trail possibly +- 100 m up-slope from a point where it departs from Lake Anza Trail, in numbers exceeding what would be suggested by "occasional", although in habit they could be described as lax, and they were not in flower (or fruit). [Therefore, a Current Status of Jepson Flora Project-2 is appropriate at this time.]
