Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 16 Mar 2004 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that S. Galen Smith [The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] family editor and Flora North America author of Eleocharis] treats Eleocharis pauciflora (Lightf.) Link and Eleocharis quinqueflora (Hartmann) O. Schwarz as conspecific, with Eleocharis pauciflora (Lightf.) Link as a synonym of Eleocharis quinqueflora (Hartmann) O. Schwarz because the latter is based on Scirpus quinqueflorus Hartmann (Primae Lin. Inst. Bot., ed. 2:85. 1767), which has priority over Scirpus pauciflorus Lightf., the basionym of Eleocharis pauciflorus (Flora Scotica 2:1078. 1777). [Therefore, Eleocharis quinqueflora (Hartmann) Schwarz var. bernardina (Munz & I. M. Johnst.) S. Gonzales & P. M. Peterson is to be treated as a synonym of Eleocharis quinqueflora (Hartmann) Schwarz.]
Correspondence 2 3 Jul 2007 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that The S. Gonzales abbreviation in Eleocharis quinqueflora var. bernardina should be spelled S. Gonzâlez [that is, with an acute over the "s"]. [Therefore, author citation corrected to Eleocharis quinqueflora (Hartmann) Schwarz var. bernardina (Munz & I. M. Johnst.) S. Gonzâlez & P. M. Peterson, from Eleocharis quinqueflora (Hartmann) Schwarz var. bernardina (Munz & I. M. Johnst.) S. Gonzales & P. M. Peterson previously in this Index, 13 Jul 2007.]
Correspondence 3 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by S. Galen Smith see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Eleocharis quinqueflora (Hartmann) Schwarz var. bernardina (Munz & I. M. Johnst.) S. Gonzâlez & P. M. Peterson is to be treated as a synonym of Eleocharis bernardina (Munz & I. M. Johnst.) Munz & I. M. Johnst., which is to be treated as native to CA.
