Editorial Comments 1

Correspondence 1 indicates that Ownbey and Aase invalidly published Allium fimbriatum var. diabolense in Munz Southern California Flora [p. 874]; that the name was validated by Traub (Plant Life 28: 64. 1972) in providing a Latin description and designation of type (a footnote by Traub indicated that "...Dr. Marion Ownbey has kindly furnished the holotype citations which makes it possible to validate" this name), so that the correct, full author citation is Allium fimbriatum var. diabolense Ownbey & Aase ex Traub. [Spelling of epithet corrected to "diabolense", from "diabloense" originally in this Index, and author citation expanded to Allium diabolense (Ownbey & Aase ex Traub) McNeal, from Allium diabloense (Traub) McNeal originally in this Index, 13 Aug 2003]

Editorial Comments 2
|
Correspondence 2 indicates that, according to Dale McNeal (The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Author), there is no doubt that Traub was the author of 11 names or combinations in Allium that were validly published in Plant Life 28:63--64 (1972), so that the correct author citation for this name is Allium diabolense (Ownbey & Aase ex Traub) McNeal. [Therefore, author citation confirmed as is in this Index, 11 Feb 2005.]
