Source of Report for California The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 25 Aug 04 e-mail from Staci Marcos, including forwarded 15 Jul 04 e-mail from Jim Morefield, in part see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that the taxon treated as Psilocarphus tenellus var. globiferus in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] will be elevated to species rank in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2], using the available name Psilocarphus chilensis A. Gray, leaving Psilocarphus tenellus as a monotypic species with no infraspecific taxa.
Correspondence 2 25 Aug 04 e-mail from Staci Marcos, including forwarded 15 Jul 04 e-mail from Jim Morefield, in part see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that Psilocarphus globiferus Nutt. is a legitimate name that Morefield (The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Author) considers a taxonomic synonym and minor variant of Psilocarphus brevissimus var. brevissimus, and that it has also sometimes been misapplied to what he treated in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] as Psilocarphus tenellus var. globiferus (Bertero ex DC.) Morefield (the epithet "globiferus" in this latter name having come from Micropus globiferus Bertero ex DC., a different legitimate name based on another type).
Correspondence 3 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Psilocarphus globiferus (Bertero ex DC.) Speg. and Psilocarphus tenellus var. globiferus (Bertero ex DC.) Morefield are to to be treated as synonyms of Psilocarphus chilensis A. Gray, and that Psilocarphus globiferus Nutt. is a name that in California has been misapplied, in part, to plants belonging instead to Psilocarphus chilensis A. Gray.
