Correspondence 1 indicates that, according to Gary Wallace, the correct author citation is Eriogonum ovalifolium Nutt. var. vineum (Small) Nelson (Botanical Gazette 52(4): 262. 1911) [Aven Nelson, = A. Nelson in Authors of Plant Names], not Eriogonum ovalifolium Nutt. var. vineum (Small) Jeps. as originally in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]. Also indicated is that although Jepson published this as what he thought was a new combination in 1914 (Fl. California 1:423), he later (Manual of Flowering Plants of California, 1923, p. 315) cited Nelson as the author.
