Initial Editorial Analysis 21 Jun 2010
Source of Report for California Correspondence 1
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 14 Nov 2003 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 2 indicates that, at the rank of variety, Carex parryana var. unica L. H. Bailey (Memoirs of the Torrey Botanical Club 1:54, 1889) has priority over Carex parryana var. hallii (Olney) Rydb. (Memoirs of the New York Botanical Garden 1:74, 1900), the two names being based on the same type. [In Flora North America, infras recognized in neither Carex parryana nor Carex hallii, and neither species indicated for CA; Carex parryana Dewey var. unica L. H. Bailey listed as synonym of Carex hallii]
Correspondence 2 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Peter Zika, Andrew Hipp, & Joy Mastrogiuseppe see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Carex parryana Dewey var. unica L. H. Bailey is to be treated as a name that in California has been misapplied to plants belonging instead to Carex idahoa L. H. Bailey.
