| Editorial Comments 1 | Correspondence 1 indicates that 5 of the 6 SMASCH records in fact were annotated only as Clarkia amoena by M. & H. Lewis in 1951 (H. Lewis is Harlan Lewis, The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] author for Clarkia), and that these recently have been determined [by Jeff Greenhouse; pers. comm.] to be Clarkia amoena subsp. amoena, and refiled accordingly; Harlan Lewis also has reported, in a letter dated 14 Jan 2003 [to Jeff Greenhouse; pers. comm.], that the sixth specimen, JEPS43699 (M. Baker 141, near Frederickson's, Iaqua, Humboldt Co., July 30, 1923), annotated by him as Clarkia amoena subsp. lindleyi in 1966, instead is intermediate between Clarkia amoena subsp. lindleyi and Clarkia amoena subsp. huntiana, and that he knows of no populations of true Clarkia amoena subsp. lindleyi in California. | |
