b Hrusa et al., ms later published in Madrono 49(2)61-98. 2002: DISTRIBUTION: ScV, SnFrB, NCoRO.; STATUS: established.; NOTES: All specimens at CDA appear referable to the var. tomentosum sensu Zohary & Heller (1984). In fruit can be confused with Trifolium fragiferum; the latter has a pedunculate inflorescence, while T. tomentosum capitula are more or less sessile in the axils; "...Pasture adj. to underpass...overflow parking area...well-established localized patch at edge of path through open oak woodland/grassland...several dense patches in grassland..."

Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 21 Mar 2008 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Trifolium tomentosum L. (Species Plantarum 2: 771-772. 1753) is the correct citation, and that the Willk. ex Nyman publication (Conspectus florae europaeae 177. 1878) was a later homonym. [Therefore, author citation correct as indicated in this Index, 21 Mar 2008.]
Correspondence 2 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Michael A. Vincent see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Trifolium tomentosum L. is to be treated as naturalized in CA.
