Correspondence 1 indicates that there are 22 [CA] records in SMASCH for which the Folder Name is Solanum physalifolium Rusby var. nitidibaccatum (Bitter) Edmonds. [According to J. M. Edmonds (Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 92: 1-38. 1986), this taxon is native to South America, but is a widespread adventive in Central America, North America, and Europe. Specimens for which the Folder Name in SMASCH is Solanum physalifolium Rusby var. nitidibaccatum (Bitter) Edmonds include some annotated as such by Edmonds, some for which the collection label data suggests naturalization and/or occurrence in +/- natural as well as urban and cultivated habitats, and some determined on the collection label to belong to Solanum villosum L. or Solanum sarrachoides Sendtner (recognized in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]), the latter treated as a synonym of Solanum physalifolium var. nitidibaccatum by Edmonds (1986).]
