b [for Polypogon imberbis (Phil.) Bjorkm.] Hrusa et al., Madrono 49(2)61-98. 2002: DIST: CCo: Hrusa et al. Current Status: No current information: DOC: Contra Costa Co.: near Martines. June 7, 1900, Burtt Davy 6662 (US); San Luis Obispo Co.: Oceano Beach in moist spots among sand dunes. July 18, 1947, R.F. Hoover 7314 (OBI, US): NOTES: Included in the Jepson Manual as P. elongatus Kunth, based on the two specimens cited above. Both of these recently re-determined by Robert Soreng (US) as P. imberbis. Hoover for San Luis Obispo Co. (1970) and especially Mason (1957) were uncomfortable with the P. elongatus determinations but did not suggest an alternative name.
Initial Editorial Comments according to Source b, plants treated in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] as Polypogon elongatus Kunth belong instead to Polypogon imberbis (Phil.) Bjorkm..
