·

Information from the Index of California Plant Names (ICPN)
Initial Editorial Analysis 17 Aug 2006
Notes on Authorship of Name both = Authors of Plant Names (see Comments, Editorial Comments 3)
Notes on Publication of Name Phytologia 57: 287. 1985
Source of Report for California 1985 Phytologia, as cited in Kartesz & Meacham
Initial Editorial Comments author citation uncertain, C. Reeder in International Plant Names Index-Gray Card Index, which is Charlotte Olive Reeder (nee Goodding, C. O., = C. O. Goodd. in Authors of Plant Names), 1916-, in Authors of Plant Names, but C. G. Reeder in Kartesz & Meacham, IPNI-Index Kewensis, not listed in Authors of Plant Names but possibly = Charlotte Olive Reeder (for Charlotte Goodding Reeder); in no way mentioned in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]; indicated as rare in CA, also present UT, AZ, CO, NM, KS, OK, TX in Kartesz & Meacham
Editorial Recommendation author citation to be checked [resolved]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 22 May 2003 e-mail from Dick Moe see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Lycurus phleoides is considered a misapplied name for Lycurus setosus in TJDM (p. 584).
Correspondence 2 16 Aug 2006 e-mail from Margriet Wetherwax, including treatment to be submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Paul M. Peterson [in reference to Muhlenbergia alopecuroides (Griseb.) P.M. Peterson & Columbus] see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that, according to treatment to be submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Paul M. Petersen, material previously misidentified as Lycurus phleoides Kunth [var. phleoides] in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] or as Lycurus setosus (Nutt.) C. Reeder in TJDM belongs instead to Muhlenbergia alopecuroides (Griseb.) P.M. Peterson & Columbus, comb. ined. [citation not available as of 17 Aug 2006].
Correspondence 3 25 Aug 2006 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 indicates that Lycurus setosus was published by Charlotte G. Reeder (abbreviated C. Reeder after the plant name in the protologue) in Phytologia 57:287 (1985). [Although there is no Charlotte G. Reeder in Authors of Plant Names, there is the entry "Reeder, Charlotte Olive (nee Goodding, C. O.) (1916- )", for which the Authors of Plant Names abbreviation is C. Reeder, and another "Goodding, Charlotte Olive (later Reeder, C. O.) (1916- )", for which the Authors of Plant Names abbreviation is C. O. Goodd., so it is reasonable to conclude that the correct author citation for this plant name is C. Reeder. Therefore, author citation corrected to Lycurus setosus (Nutt.) C. Reeder, from Lycurus setosus (Nutt.) C. G. Reeder previously in this Index, 30 Aug 2006.]
