Location and rarity information needed, especially quads for LAX, MNO, and SMT counties, and SRO Isl. Does plant occur in FRE Co.? Most mainland occurrences have been extirpated by development; others are threatened. Previously confused with H. pusillum. See Nordic Journal of Botany 2:307-321 (1982) for taxonomic treatment."

Correspondence 2 indicates, under Hordeum intercedens Nevski, which is said to be native, that Hordeum intercedens Nevski is sometimes treated as a synonym of Hordeum pusillum Nutt., and that Hordeum pusillum Nutt. has been reported from California but is not naturalized, and that the situation needs study. [Although the statement "has been reported from California but is not naturalized" suggests the possibility that Hordeum pusillum Nutt. occurs in California as a waif, the Current Status of that name was not addressed, and so remains tentative. The fact that Hordeum intercedens Nevski could be native as well as a potential synonym of Hordeum pusillum Nutt, which evidently is not, is not addressed in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2].]
