Link and Eleocharis quinqueflora (Hartmann) O. Schwarz as conspecific, with Eleocharis pauciflora (Lightf.) Link as a synonym of Eleocharis quinqueflora (Hartmann) O. Schwarz because the latter is based on Scirpus quinqueflorus Hartmann (Primae Lin. Inst. Bot., ed. 2:85. 1767), which has priority over Scirpus pauciflorus Lightf., the basionym of Eleocharis pauciflorus (Flora Scotica 2:1078. 1777).
