Correspondence 1, based necessarily on an article by Rudolf Schmid & Melvin D. Turner (Madroño 24:68--74. 1977) because the original protologue wasn't readily available, indicates: that Darmera peltata was published by Andreas Voss (Voss in Authors of Plant Names) in Gærtnerisches Zentral-Blatt 1:646 (1899); that the basionym is Saxifraga peltata, published by George Bentham (Benth. in Authors of Plant Names) in Plantas Hartwegianas 311 (1839); and that Bentham ascribed the name to "Torr. in litt." but supplied his own Latin description.
