Source of Report for California Correspondence 2
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by John M. Tucker see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 [for Quercus X grandidentata Ewan] indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Quercus X grandidentata Ewan is to be treated as a hybrid between Quercus durata var. gabrielensis and Quercus engelmannii, mentioned under the first parent but not treated otherwise.
Correspondence 2 15 Apr 2015 e-mail from Alan T. Whittemore see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 includes reference to a paper (I.M. Turner, Ann. Bot. Fennici 51: 308. 2014) in which Quercus X grandidentata Ewan (Bull. Torrey Bot. Club 64: 512. 1937) is shown to be a later homonym of the fossil Quercus grandidentata Unger (Gen. Sp. Pl. Foss. 401. 1850) and therefore illegitimate; it is replaced in this paper by Quercus ewanii I.M. Turner, which may be expressed as Quercus X ewanii I.M. Turner to indicate it is a hybrid.
