Source of Report for California The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Initial Editorial Comments under Typha angustifolia in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], "Possibly naturalized in CA", although font used indicates native taxon.
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates, in a note under the species that appears only online, that there is strong evidence that Typha angustifolia L. was introduced from Europe to the Atlantic Coast in colonial times, [and then, evidently, later introduced to CA, where it has been known since at least 1909], and so the species name appears in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] in a font indicating it is not known whether it is native or naturalized in CA. [Because of the foregoing, and because the species (as well as Typha X glauca Godr.) is a serious invasive weed in e N.Am, a Current Status of Jepson Flora Project-2 may be most appropriate, although evidently there remains also reason to believe it is native to CA.]
