Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 | 19 Sep 2005 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 | Correspondence 1 indicates that Trientalis europaea subsp. arctica was published by Eric Hultén (Hultén in Authors of Plant Names), in Kongl. Svenska Vetenskapsakad. Handl. ser. 3, 8, no. 2: 56. 1930, according to International Plant Names Index-Gray Card Index and Hultén himself in Flora of the Aleutian Islands (original publication not available in UCB library), and that the basionym, Trientalis arctica, was published by William Jackson Hooker (Hook. in Authors of Plant Names), in Flora Boreali-Americana 2:121--122 (1840), wherein Hooker ascribed the name to "Fisch. mst. in Herb. nostr." and provided his own short description. [Therefore, author citation expanded toTrientalis europaea L. subsp. arctica (Fisch. ex Hook.) Hultén, from Trientalis europaea L. subsp. arctica (Hook.) Hultén previously in this Index, 21 Sep 2005.]
Correspondence 2 | 11 Jan 2006 e-mail from Anita Cholewa, The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Author, including changes to treatment for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2]. see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 | Correspondence 2 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2], Trientalis arctica Fisch. ex Hook. and Trientalis europaea L. subsp. arctica (Hook.) Hultén are to be treated as synonyms of Trientalis europaea L. (i.e., infras are not to be recognized in Trientalis europaea L.).
Correspondence 3 | Treatment and author notes submitted for revision of The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 | Correspondence 3 indicates, based on phylogenetic analyses of molecular and morphological data (Manns & Anderberg 2005 Int Jour Pl Sci 166:1019-1028, 2007 Syst Bot 32:166-179, 2007 Molec Phylogenet Evol 45:971-980), that all California members of Myrsinaceae in the genera Anagallis, Glaux, and Trientalis have been transferred to Lysimachia (Manns & Anderberg 2009 Willdenowia 39:49-54; Cholewa 2014 Phytoneuron 2014-28: 1-2), so that Trientalis europaea L. subsp. arctica (Fisch. ex Hook.) Hultén, previously treated as a synonym of Trientalis europaea L., is treated as a synonym of Lysimachia europaea (L.) U. Manns & Anderb..
