Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 11 Apr 2005 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that J. K. Morton (= Authors of Plant Names), in Flora North America 5:190 (2005), treats Silene californica as Silene laciniata subsp. californica (Durand) J. K. Morton (SIDA 21:888. 2004), based on his observation that, although Silene californica and Silene laciniata are readily separable north of the border, "in Mexico, many collections show intergrading characters and are not readily identifiable" so that "subspecific status is more appropriate."
Correspondence 2 Treatment submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Ron Hartman, Rich Rabeler see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that Silene laciniata Cav. subsp. californica (Durand) J. K. Morton is to be treated as native to California in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2], with Silene californica Durand listed as syn.
