Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that M. B. Moss published the name Setaria sphacelata with no accompanying description or diagnosis in Bull. Misc. Inform. 1929:195 (1929); and that valid publication of the name was accomplished the following year, in Flora of Tropical Africa 9:795--798 (1930), by O. Stapf and C. E. Hubbard (Stapf & C. E. Hubb. in Authors of Plant Names), who ascribed the combination to M. B. Moss (= Authors of Plant Names). [Therefore, author citation corrected to Setaria sphacelata (Schumach.) M. B. Moss ex Stapf & C.E. Hubb., from Setaria sphacelata (Schumach.) Moss previously in this Index, 7 Nov 2003, although uncertainty remains with respect to the author citation, since Setaria sphacelata Stapf & C.E.Hubb. ex Chipp (Kew Bull. 1929, 184, 195) is given in International Plant Names Index-Index Kewensis.]

Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 indicates that: the citation of Setaria sphacelata Stapf & C.E.Hubb. ex Chipp (Kew Bull. 1929, 184, 195) refers to an article, written by Chipp, which contains an enumeration of specimens "prepared by Miss M. B. Moss, of the Herbarium, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew"; that Moss' listing "Setaria sphacelata Stapf & Hubbard. E of Kippia, 9000 ft. A grass 3 ft. high, one of the commonest constituents of the mountain meadows. No. 98." is associated with neither an adequate description or diagnosis nor a reference to one and, therefore, is not a valid publication of the name; that the valid 1930 publication in Sir David Prain's Flora of Tropical Africa 9:795--798 was written by Stapf and C. E. Hubbard (as indicated in the preface), who cited the basionym Panicum sphacelatum Schumach. in their list of synonyms and credited Moss' earlier work in which the name appeared; and that, therefore and as John Strother concurs, Setaria sphacelata (Schumach.) M. B. Moss ex Stapf & C. E. Hubb., as indicated previously in this Index, is correct.

Hubb. is to be treated as naturalized in CA, but with a note that says "Planted experimentally as a pasture grass and occ escaping." [which would suggest instead that it is only a waif in CA].
