Initial Editorial Analysis Nov 1 2001
Source of Report for California The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Initial Editorial Comments spelling of epithet "siphocamyploides" in Kartesz & Meacham, as cited in International Plant Names Index-Index Kewensis, IPNI-Gray Card Index
Variant Spelling Scutellaria siphocamyploides
Editorial Recommendation spelling of epithet to be checked [resolved]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 26 Dec 2002 e-mail from Dick Moe see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates: that the epithet "siphocampyloides" is derived from the generic name Siphocampylus Pohl (Campanulaceae), so that the correct spelling is "siphocampyloides" (the spelling in Kartesz & Meacham evidently a typographical error); and that the correct spelling of "austinae" is "austiniae", since it honors "Mrs. R. M. Austin". [According to ICBN, Rec. 60C.1.b., the correct termination for a substantive epithet honoring a female whose name ends in a consonant (except -er) is -iae, so that Scutellaria austinae Eastw. under The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] synonyms corrected to Scutellaria austiniae Eastw.]
