Initial Editorial Comments not indicated for California in Flora North America treatment by Matthew H. Hils (The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Author), John W. Thieret, & James D. Morefield, although it is stated therein, "So far as is known, Sarcobatus baileyi is endemic to Nevada, centering in the Lahontan Basin. It is often in monotypic stands or with Atriplex confertifolia or Sarcobatus vermiculatus. It should be sought in adjacent California. Bailey greasewood is allegedly a nonphreatophyte.". The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] treatment by Matthew H. Hils.
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 20 May 2008 e-mail from James D. Morefield see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates, verbatim: Sarcobatus baileyi occurs on both sides of the California line in Fishlake Valley, Mono County, along the west side of California highway 266 between Oasis, CA, and Dyer, NV. Don't know how I've overlooked it there before. It extends at least 1/2 mile southwest of the border into to California in this area, along at least 2 miles of the border. Documenting photographs are attached (if this address accepts attachments). The specimen collection is: California, Mono County: White Mountains, lower fan of Furnace Creek in Fishlake Valley, along west side of California highway 266 about 0.6 road mile south of state line, WGS84, N37.56716, W117.97867, 13 May 2008, J. D. Morefield 5816, duplicates to be deposited at JEPS, NY, RSA, RENO, etc. P.S. the elevation for the Sarcobatus baileyi specimen in Mono County was about 1520 meters, and the population appeared to extend from 1500 to at least 1600 meters within California.
