Source of Report for California The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 $ 8 Feb 2002, from Margriet Wetherwax see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that this species, treated as Petunia parviflora in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], is now treated as Calibrachoa parviflora, based at least in part on cytological data.
Correspondence 2 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Michael Nee see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] the splitting of Calibrachoa from Petunia is not to be adopted, so that Calibrachoa parviflora (Juss.) D'Arcy is to be treated as a synonym of Petunia parviflora Juss..
Correspondence 3 9 Mar 2012 e-mail from Dave Keil see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 refers to a paper by Fregonezi et al. (Taxon 61:120--130. 2012) in which evidence from chloroplast DNA, morphology, and ecology is used to support segregation of Calibrachoa from Petunia, and in which Calibrachoa parviflora (Juss.) D'Arcy is assigned, with one other species, to one of two subgenera, and said to occur "in North America and Europe, probably as a result of introduction from South America and subsequent naturalization". [Therefore, the taxon may be naturalized in CA, and not native.]
Pending data Calibrachoa parviflora (Juss.) D'Arcy may become the accepted name for Petunia parviflora Juss.
