Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 Author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Robert E. Preston see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Oxalis Oxalis latifolia Kunth is to be treated as a waif, and that recent collections evidently do not exist. [Therefore, it is most appropriate to consider Oxalis latifolia Kunth an historical waif, meaning that it will not be treated in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2].]
Correspondence 2 18 Oct 2010 e-mail from David J. Keil see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that Oxalis latifolia Kunth is documented in San Luis Obispo County by a 2005 collection from a wild-lands habitat (n of San Simeon along California Route 1, n of Piedras Blancas Lighthouse rd, s of Piedras Blancas Motel; spring and marsh atop coastal terrace between highway and edge of sea bluff; local, growing up through patch of Carpobrotus edulis; corolla pink; 24 June 2005; David Keil 30389 with Dave Hacker), and that additionally it is an aggressive garden weed in San Luis Obispo (940 Del Rio Ave, San Luis Obispo; aggressively spreading in garden by dispersed bulblets; corolla pink; 18 Oct 2010; David Keil 30931). [Because Correspondence 2 does not indicate whether or not the plants collected in 2005 were reproducing, a Current Status of Jepson Flora Project-3 remains most appropriate at this time, although it seems likely that the plants reproduce about as well by bulblets in the wild-land habitat as they do in the garden.]
