Information from the Index of California Plant Names (ICPN)
Initial Editorial Analysis 2 Jun 2008
Source of Report for California Oswald, V. 1994. Manual of the Vascular Plants of Butte County, California. California Native Plant Society, Sacramento, as cited in Kartesz & Meacham
Initial Editorial Comments in no way mentioned in Munz, Munz Supplement, The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]; indicated only for California in Kartesz & Meacham
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 10 Sep 2007 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates: that Oxalis bowiei was published by G. Don in A General History of the Dichlamydeous Plants 1:761 (1831); that Don ascribed the name to "Ait. mss." but provided his own description; and that, considering the date of publication (1831), it is most reasonable to interpret the "Ait." to represent William Townsend Aiton (1766-1849; W.T. Aiton in Authors of Plant Names) rather than William Aiton (1731-1793; Aiton in Authors of Plant Names). [Therefore, author citation corrected to Oxalis bowiei W. T. Aiton ex G. Don, from Oxalis bowiei Lindl. previously in this Index, 19 Sep 2007.]
Correspondence 2 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Robert E. Preston see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Oxalis bowiei is to be treated as a waif in CA.
