a Hrusa et al., ms later published in Madrono 49(2)61-98. 2002: DISTRIBUTION: SCo.; STATUS: tenuous (or very locally established); NOTES: Some individuals probably originally planted (persisting ornamentals), but others growing in cracks of boulders, etc. and plainly spontaneous. This is so scarce as a cultivated plant that this might easily be the only naturalized locality, where it is doing well. Reproduction is apparently by seed; "...decomposed granite slopes at edge between landscaped (residential) areas and coastal sage scrub...disturbed and weedy with with some no longer tended ornamentals..."

El. 1000 ft/305m, E-facing decomposed granite slopes at edge between landscaped (residential) areas and coastal sage scrub. Disturbed and weedy with some no longer tended ornamentals. A locally common shrub or tree to 10m tall. Oct. 23, 1996, A.C. Sanders 19643 (UCR): NOTES: Some individuals probably originally planted (persisting ornamentals), but others growing in cracks of boulders, etc. and plainly spontaneous. This is so scarce as a cultivated plant that this might easily be the only naturalized locality, where it is doing well. Reproduction is apparently by seed.
