Sutton, in A Revision of the Tribe Antirrhineae:455-461 (1988), named the segregate genus Nuttallanthus, differing morphologically from Linaria in corolla and seed shape, and published the new combinations Nuttallanthus canadensis (L.) D. A. Sutton (pp. 457--458) and Nuttallanthus texanus (Scheele) D. A. Sutton (pp. 460--461) for Linaria canadensis (L.) Chaz. var. canadensis [and Linaria canadensis (L.) Chaz.] and Linaria canadensis (L.) Chaz. var. texana (Scheele) Pennell respectively.
