Nemophila hoplandensis C.M. Barr
HYDROPHYLLACEAE (as of Revision 9, genus transferred from Boraginaceae; genus previously included in Hydrophyllaceae)
Initial Editorial Analysis 1 Aug 2014
Source of Report for California Correspondence 1
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 31 Jul 2014 e-mail from Bruce Baldwin, including forwarded e-mail from Dave Keil see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that, according to Keil, the description and photograph of the new species, Nemophila hoplandensis C.M. Barr, both match what is called Nemophila menziesii Hook. & Arn. var. atomaria (Fisch. & C. A. Mey.) Voss in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] (as well as The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]), and that although evidence presented in the paper supports recognition of the taxon at the level of species, the name Nemophila atomaria Fisch. & C. A. Mey. evidently is available for it at that rank and is to be used.
Pending data Nemophila atomaria Fisch. & C. A. Mey. or Nemophila hoplandensis C.M. Bar may become the accepted name for Nemophila menziesii Hook. & Arn. var. atomaria (Fisch. & C. A. Mey.) Voss
