Information from the Index of California Plant Names (ICPN)
Initial Editorial Analysis Nov 1 2001
Source of Report for California The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Initial Editorial Comments author citation uncertain, (Thurb. ex S. Watson) Rydb. in Kartesz & Meacham, Rosatti notes
Editorial Recommendation author citation to be checked [resolved]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 25 Aug 2006 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Muhlenbergia filiformis was published by Rydberg (Rydb. in Authors of Plant Names) in Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical Club 32:600 (1905), based on Vilfa depauperata var. filiformis, published by S. Watson (= Authors of Plant Names) in United States Geological Expolration [sic] of the Fortieth Parallel. Botany 376 (1871), and that S. Watson ascribed his name to "Thurber, Ms." (Thurb. in Authors of Plant Names) but supplied his own description. [Therefore, author citation corrected to Muhlenbergia filiformis (Thurb. ex S. Watson) Rydb., from Muhlenbergia filiformis (Thurb.) Rydb. previously in this Index, 30 Aug 2006.]
