Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 7 Dec 2007 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates: that Arenaria douglasii (basionym of Minuartia douglasii) was published by Torr. & A. Gray in A Flora of North America 1(4): 674 1840); that they ascribed the name to "Fenzl" but supplied their own description; and that Minuartia douglasii was published by Johannes Mattfeld (Mattf. in Authors of Plant Names) in Botanische Jahrbücher für Systematik, Pflanzengeschichte und Pflanzengeographie 57(2, Beibl. 126): 27. 1921, based on Arenaria douglasii. [Therefore, author citation expanded to Minuartia douglasii (Fenzl ex Torr. & A. Gray) Mattf., from Minuartia douglasii (Torr. & A. Gray) Mattf. previously in this Index, 12 Dec 2007; also, author citations of The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] synonyms (and Current Jepson Flora Project synonyms) expanded to Arenaria douglasii Fenzl ex Torr. & A. Gray and Arenaria douglasii Fenzl ex Torr. & A. Gray var. emarginata H. Sharsm., from Arenaria douglasii Torr. & A. Gray and Arenaria douglasii var. emarginata H. Sharsm., respectively, previously in this Index, 12 Dec 2007.]
Correspondence 2 20 Mar 2014 e-mail from Dave Keil see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 includes reference to a molecular phylogenetic paper [Dillenberger and Kadereit. 2014. Taxon 63:64-88] in which California members of Minuartia are transferred to Sabulina, in order to render monophyletic what had been a "highly polyphyletic" Minuartia.
Pending data Sabulina douglasii (Fenzl ex Torr. & A. Gray) Dillenb. & Kadereit may become the accepted name for Minuartia douglasii (Fenzl ex Torr. & A. Gray) Mattf.
