Initial Editorial Analysis 5 Mar 2010
Notes on Authorship of Name last two = Authors of Plant Names
Notes on Publication of Name Man. Fl. Pl. Calif. 529. 1925
Source of Report for California
a Munz, P.A. in collaboration with D. D. Keck. 1968, as cited in Kartesz & Meacham
b The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], as minor variant of Lupinus adsurgens
Initial Editorial Comments author citation uncertain, Lupinus adsurgens var. lilacinus A. Heller in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], A. Heller in Jeps. in Gray Card Index; publication in Jeps. is in treatment authored by C. P. Sm., in which A. Heller cited by C. P. Sm., so A. Heller ex C. P. Sm. in Jeps. appears to be correct.
Editorial Recommendation author citation to be checked [resolved]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 1 Mar 2007 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Lupinus adsurgens var. lilacina was published in the Lupine section authored by Charles Piper Smith (C.P. Sm. in Authors of Plant Names) in Jepson, Flowering Plants of California 529 (1925), wherein Smith ascribed the name to "Hel.", referring to A.A. Heller (A. Heller in Authors of Plant Names), collector of the holotype, but provided his own diagnosis. [Therefore, author citation correct as indicated in this Index, 2 Mar 2007.]
Correspondence 2 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Teresa Sholars see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Lupinus adsurgens Drew var. lilacinus A. Heller ex C. P. Sm. and Lupinus adsurgens Drew var. undulatus C. P. Sm., and thereforeLupinus adsurgens Drew var. adsurgens, are all to be treated essentially as minor variants (of Lupinus adsurgens Drew), for which the matter of taxonomic recognition or not requires further study, and therefore remains unresolved.
