Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Chamaesyce platysperma (Engelm.) Shinners is to be recognized and treated as native to CA. [Both Euphorbia platysperma Engelm. ex S.Watson and Chamaesyce platysperma (Engelm. ex S.Watson ) Shinners (both consistent with this Index as it was prior to 3 Dec 2012) are given in International Plant Names Index, so author citation uncertain. In fact, Euphorbia platysperma was published in Bot. California (W.H.Brewer) 2:482. 1880 (i.e, on p. 482 in volume II of Geological Survey of California. J. D. Whitney, State Geologist. Botany. Cambridge, MA), wherein Sereno S. Watson (whose name appears on the title page as the author of the work) ascribed the name to "Engelm. Ms." and quoted Engelmann's English description, so that Engelm. alone is the correct author citation. Therefore, author citation corrected to Euphorbia platysperma Engelm., from Euphorbia platysperma Engelm. ex S. Watson previously in this Index, 3 Dec 2012.]
